Forestry Services

JRC has provided a broad range of professional forestry services to private and public sector landowners since 1992. Our services include THP document preparation, logging system design and analysis, timber cruising and appraisal, road design, biological surveys, carbon sequestration analysis, archaeological surveys, GPS data collection, and GIS mapping. We have extensive experience in timber sale preparation and administration for private landowners and timber sale preparation for the United States Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management.

Our staff may also be able to help prepare documents required by county ordinance; please feel free to contact us at the closest regional office to your project location.

JRC’s forestry staff consist of licensed registered professional foresters, professional consulting biologists, certified arborists, and additional forestry support staff who enable us to complete projects in a timely and professional manner, without needing to contract out most of our work. Our goal at JRC is to provide our clientele effective forest management solutions in California's complex regulatory environment.

Timberland Improvement & Reforestation

We love trees!

We handle all aspects of reforestation including our very own pilot program for collecting cones from seed trees with the best phenotypes, which are then used to supplement the seed bank collection at CAL FIRE’s L.A. Moran Reforestation Center. We also order seedlings from nursery stock, solicit and supervise planting contractors, implement chemical site preparation prescriptions using our very own licensed Pesticide Control Advisors and individuals with CA state Qualified Applicator Licenses, and conduct 5-year stocking surveys to ensure adequate forest regeneration.

Funding Applications

Sometimes logging projects do not generate enough revenue to adequately fund vital forest management activities, including fuel break construction and maintenance, salvage logging of dead, dying, and diseased timber following wildfire, drought, and pest infestation, invasive species control, prescribed fire, and tree planting. Fortunately a number of state and federal grants are available to non-industrial land owners and managers; JRC has a long track record of successful applications for funding on behalf of our clients including:

  • California Forest Improvement Program (CFIP) subsidies funded and administrated by CAL FIRE

  • Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) funded and administrated by the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS)

  • California Climate Investment (CCI) grants awarding federal funds through CAL FIRE’s Forest Health Program

We have written and administered dozens of CFIP and EQIP funded projects as well as a number of CCI grants; in the 2021-2022 fiscal year JRC secured more than 13 million dollars in CCI grant funding for clients to complete wildfire restoration and mitigation projects.
